S-Monovette Blood Collection Training at The Maldives National University

S-Monovette Blood Collection Training at The Maldives National University

Naadu, in collaboration with Sarstedt, recently organized a comprehensive hands-on training session on venous blood collection for nursing students at The Maldives National University, School of Nursing. The training, held at the Nursing Art Lab, provided students with an invaluable opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and gain practical experience in one of the most essential procedures in healthcare.

The session introduced students to the S-Monovette blood collection system, a modern and innovative solution designed to enhance safety, improve sample quality, and reduce the chances of pre-analytical errors. These errors such as hemolysis, incorrect tube usage, or improper handling remain the most common cause of inaccurate laboratory results. By learning correct techniques for sample collection, handling, labeling, and storage, students were shown how the S-Monovette system helps ensure both reliable results and patient safety.

To further enrich the program, Sarstedt Dubai extended their support by sending a Product Specialist, Ms. Mary Gladys Pearl Alvarez to lead demonstrations and guide participants through the proper use of the system. This expert presence not only deepened the technical knowledge shared but also gave students the chance to learn directly from an international specialist with practical experience in implementing the S-Monovette system across healthcare settings.

One of the highlights of the training was the active student participation. Rather than observing passively, students engaged in actual blood collection exercises, applying the techniques step by step under the supervision of the trainers. For many participants, this was their first time using the system, and the practical exposure significantly boosted their confidence. Students remarked on how different it felt to move from theory to practice, and how reassuring it was to receive real-time feedback from the trainers and the Product Specialist.

The training also emphasized the importance of safety for both patients and healthcare professionals. The closed S-Monovette system reduces unnecessary exposure to bloodborne pathogens and minimizes risks of sample contamination, making it a more reliable option compared to conventional collection methods. By experiencing this technology first-hand, students were able to appreciate how small improvements in procedure can have a big impact on patient outcomes and laboratory efficiency.

At Naadu, we strongly believe that investing in healthcare education is investing in the future of patient care. This collaboration with Sarstedt is part of our ongoing commitment to introducing global best practices and technologies into the Maldivian healthcare system. By equipping students with both modern tools and the skills to use them effectively, we are helping to prepare the next generation of nurses for the realities of clinical practice.

This training session is just one example of how Naadu continues to bridge the gap between education and practice. By working alongside international partners like Sarstedt, we aim to provide healthcare professionals in the Maldives with the knowledge, skills, and technologies needed to deliver safe, accurate, and high-quality care.

Through initiatives like this, we are not only supporting students in their learning journey but also contributing to a stronger and more resilient healthcare system for the nation.
